Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Austin Powers’ is a PG-13 rated movie that was clearly rated as such way before today. This comedy has many sexual references and innuendos that parents might not wanting their kids to watch. Other than that, this film is definitely a fun watch. The jokes are simple and easy to get, making it comedic to most anybody, although, some might consider this movie to be idiotic. The main characters are complete opposites, which adds another level of humor to the movie that makes it even more enjoyable.

This movie stars Austin Powers (Mike Myers) who is a major playboy. He owes his cool personality, world-saving actions and ability to get with whatever girl he wants to his “mojo”. The other main character, Dr. Evil (Mike Myers), is the complete opposite, awkward and unappealing. The movie plays off a stereotype of the evil “genius” wanting to take over the world, but it is very obvious that this movie is more focussed on jealousy as all of Dr. Evil’s plans involve destroying Austin in some way or another. His main idea to get rid of Austin is to steal his mojo. Dr. believes this will allow him to gain Austin’s abilities, while keeping him from being able to ruin his plans. As in all hero movies, Austin gains a sidekick, a secret agent for the CIA, Vanessa (Elizabeth Hurley), and Dr. Evil has an evil team. The film is full of fun scenes that you just can’t help but laugh at.

I’m giving this movie 7 out of 10 stars. I can’t get past the quirky characters and the creativity of the movie as a whole. It’s enjoyable and a great option for a movie night. The cast is full of familiar faces, and well known references. I felt like the movie as a whole was somewhat relatable.
